Dynamics AX 2012 has been amazing with its all new exciting range of features. I found the Time and Attendance registration feature pretty useful and decent and I am sure Microsoft will make it more powerful in the coming versions. Let me first explain you what this functionality is and how it can benefit organizations.
Organizations of all sizes use Time and attendance systems to record when their employees start and stop work, and the department where the work is performed. It’s also a common practice to track meals and breaks, the type of work performed, and the number of items produced. The Time and attendance functionality of AX 2012 enables organizations to track the time and attendance including the jobs on which the workers are working on a given day. Using this functionality the workers can register various types of times such as Clock in, Clock out, Absence, Breaks, Flex time, Overtime etc. This functionality will find a lot of traction in the manufacturing industries where lot of the workers are paid based on their working profiles and make time registrations.
The below diagram depicts the overall flow of the worker’s time registration process in Dynamics AX 2012.
Now that we know an overview of the Time and attendance functionality, let us look at the setups which we need to make in order to use this functionality.
Basic setup for T&A:
There are a bunch of setups present under the Time and attendance form in the human resource module. Each of these setups as a significance and I will not explain those here as I will primarily highlight the process of the time and attendance recording in this post.

In my next post, I will cover the remaining part of this functionality.

1. Context – The team should answer questions about the team or project. Where does the team fit in the scheme of things? Why were you chosen to be a part of this project?
2. Competence - Do we have the right people on the team? Do they have the skills needed for this project and what they have been assigned? Are you capable of dealing with problems? Do you know resources to fix issues that arise that a team member can not handle? Do everyone trust each team member?
3. Committed - to the team. Do each member bring some value to the team? What incentives are in place to encourage the team to do well?
4. Control - Do each team member understand their boundaries? Is there a process in place that allows the team to review its current practices? Are members held accountable if they do not meet timelines? If so, what is that process
5. Communication – Members must a clear understanding about the priority of tasks. Be sure the method of feedback is clear and honest.
BONUS
6. Coordinated - Who is the leader of the team? Who do they report to?
Before creating our workflow templates or configuring pre-existing DAX templates, we need to setup the workflow infrastructure including the Windows Workflow Foundation Framework, .net business connector etc., relevant system users and a number of configurations within AX itself. So first things first. Lets setup out Workflow Website containing Windows Workflow Foundation.
Your workflow infrastructure should now all be ready.
Should you wish to have multiple AOS environments all running Workflow, but only 1 IIS server.
Keep your eyes open for the Workflow walk-through on Configurations and Template developments.
Please let me know if you have any further comments or tips that you have discovered during workflow infrastructure configuration.
When applying application hotfixes or moving Enterprise Portal between Environments you may have problems with mismatched Enterprise Portal DLL files.
Normally Dynamics AX DLL files are deployed only with Kernel hoxfixes, but there are four DLL's that are delivered as part of application
hotfixes when a new WebParts.Cab file is installed for Enterprise Portal related fixes.
The four files affected are the following:
1. Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.portal.dll
2. Microsoft.Dynamics.Compliance.InternalControlsManager.dll
3. Microsoft.Dynamics.WebParts.dll
4. Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.Portal.CommonControls.dll
If you have Enterprise Portal errors after applying a hotfix or when trying to run AXUpdatePortal you want to verify the version of the
files in the Windows\assemby folder to see if they match the files in the Webparts.cab file in the AOT.
Checking the files in the WebParts.cab in the AOT
Open the AOT and Navigate to Web | Web Files | Web Parts, Right-click AxWebParts_cab and select Open
Once the form opens choose Export and save the file to a location on the IIS server where Enterprise Portal is installed.
Go to the location and open the Cab file and Extract the four files and check the version of the file properties
The version numbers on these file should match the versions of the same files in C:\windows\assembly.
If the versions don't match you can try manually registering the files by dragging them and dropping them in the
<%systemroot%>\assembly folder.
There is also a copy of the WebPart.cab file that is stored in the SharePoint Solution Management, the cab file stored here can be
different from the one in the AOT and can be removed and replaced the correct one.
To locate the axwebparts.cab on an EP site open Central Administration | Operations | Solution Management under the
Global Configuration section
In Solution Management it will show the axwebparts.cab (if EP was ever installed), and whether or not it is deployed. If it is deployed it will show which site it is deployed to. From this screen, you
can click on AxWebParts.cab and get to another page, which will allow you to deploy the cab if it is in and error state or remove it if you suspect it is
not the correct version as what is in the AOT.
The menu opens but nothing happens when you click on a menu item
See if this is enabled DivX Plus Web Player HTML5 <video> in your browser, if so disable it like this
Open IE > Tools > Manage Add-ons > Select “DivX Plus Web Player HTML5 <video>” Add-on > Click Disable > Restart IE.
Otherwise try resetting your IE settings in the advanced tab.
If the above not working with you, you can try by Open IE Dev tools (F12), change browser mode to anything , page will refresh, now go back and change it to IE9 and change Document mode to IE8 Standards.
